Before I get to today's post, let me thank you all for all your well wishes and sympathy. It is exactly what a grown woman who wipes out in the shower needs. LOL I am now moving around fine. I have a little but of residual pain in the neck (maybe because I am a pain in the neck) and my bruises are now lovely shades that resemble the colors of this paragraph. Yes, I tried the same "joke" twice. Did you laugh this time? NO???? Well! LOL

I know, I know. Stop groaning! Yes, I have been tagged. I *normally* don't "play" tag because I get side tracked, but I figured I have to play every once in a while right?

The rules state I have to tag other people, but... I am not going to play by the rules. :) LOL I'll divulge some info about me, but the buck stops here. :) I would love to read 7 interesting facts about ALL of you that read my blog though, so PLEASE feel free to divulge right here as a comment to this post. :) Sound good?

I was tagged by the wonderful Pam Varnell. :) She is a ribbon addict (as me how I know) and a fellow design team member of Starving Artistamps (link to the left). Here is her blog: http://www.stampingpam.blogspot.com/ She is an awesome stamper! :)

7 things about myself:

  • I am NOT a morning person. Only approach with protective gear on and even then, VERY cautiously. I have been known to growl, bark and occasionally bite. When my daughters wake me with the sound of bickering, I resemble one of those cartoon characters whose heads turn red and explode. Really? Why do we have to wake up in the morning? LOL
  • I don't have pets and don't understand them. Once, I was babysitting for my cousin at her house and was holding her baby. Her large American Bulldog kept coming over and "growling" at me. I begged my son to move the dog away from me. This happened at least 3 or 4 times. I was sure I was about to be attacked and have my face bitten off because I was holding her baby. Then it occurred to me that maybe the dog needed something. *light bulb* I asked Nathan (my son) to open the back door and the dog ran out. I was so proud of myself for "speaking dog". LOL
  • I am an excessive LOLer. I don't REALLY laugh that much, but feel the need to type LOL a crazy amount of times! LOL (LOL at the LOL)
  • When I find something (normally stamp related) for a GREAT deal I get a high! Really, like a euphoric, excited high. This has happened when I find ribbon half off, when I got Swarovski crystals for $1 a pack and when I visit Hobby Lobby and their paper packs and brads are on sale. :) (fighting the LOL urge)
  • I am a nail biter. It is something I have done since I was a wee little girl. I have tried to quit and I can't. So, if we ever meet... don't look at my hands. It is NOT a pretty sight. *shudders*
  • I am very sappy, sensitive and sentimental.
  • I suffer from motion sickness. I prefer to drive while in a car to avoid nausea, but if not I really need to sit in the front seat. In airplanes, I need the air blowing in my face on the descent. Roller coasters are not my friend. LOL I do go on them, but pay the price. *eww*
I am looking forward to reading 7 things about YOU. :)

Have a great day! HUGS!

May Day!

May ARTS Day that is! :) Two of them actually. I skipped the day of whining and went straight to cutting all the beautiful ribbon yesterday. After 2 long days of cutting I am done with what has been delivered so far. I am expecting a couple more shipments still, but for now the cutting is done. YAY! As always I will ship the ribbon in order of sign ups.

On Friday, October 26th I will begin boxing the ribbon. I will send an e-mail to all participants when your ribbon ships. :) It will probably be Monday before I can ship it, but *may* be able to on Friday if time permits.
Have a wonderful day!

What is a Tonic Paper Distresser?

I got a question a couple days ago asking what a Tonic paper distresser was. Well, here it is. :)

You can use this tool to distress the edges of your card stock or patterned paper. Your paper is inserted into one of the little wedges. Swipe once for a little disressing or saw back and forth to shred it to pieces. :) Either looks great and both can be very therapeutic! LOL Kinda like setting an eyelet with an old fashioned tool and hammer, this tool will definitely empower you. Feel free to shred your paper to pieces. :) You just might like it. :) In my opinion this tool (or a similar one that serves the same purpose) is a must have!
This tool is available in a snazzy color and paired with other stamping tools here:

A Sketch and a Scratch!

I'll start with the sketch and will get to the scratch in a minute. :)

This is my card for the Wednesday sketch challenge. I LOVE the sketch challenges. It is a blueprint for a card. I print it out, go choose some colors and start stamping.

Do you want to play? Click here for all the details: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295525

To make the leaf, I first inked up my stamp with my markers and blenders pens. (Since the in colors do not have markers, I soak up ink with my blender pen and use it as a marker. Be aware that once you do that it will be dedicated to that color.) Next, I misted my stamp and stamped it on watercolor paper. Then, I used some reinkers and my aquapainter to fill in the leaf completely. After drying it with my heat gun, I stamped it again slightly offset with my Versamark pad and then used heat and stick powder on it. (Note: when using heat and stick powder only heat slightly or you will burn the adhesive). After heating, I dumped some pretty grey glitter over it. Reheat slightly to make sure glitter is adhered well. Then, when I cut out the leaf I made sure to have plenty of color as well as glitter showing. :)

The other layers are pretty self explanatory.

I whipped out my handy dandy Janome sewing machine and stitched the two layers. Then I added the brads, slapped on some ribbon and stuck it all together with dimensionals. I molded the leaf a little so that it was dimensional and then adhered that to the top layer as my focal point.

NOW FOR THE SCRATCH:

Today while stepping into the shower, my foot starting sliding... next thing I knew I was laying on my back on the bathroom floor. On the way down I managed to bang up my right knee, scratch my right arm, hit my left shoulder on the tub, land square on my BOOTIE right on the track for the sliding glass shower door and then slam my upper back/neck on the floor. First I start crying hysterically, then screamed a little in agony over my throbbing bootie. I got up and limped around for a minute before VERY CAREFULLY stepping back in the shower while gripping everything in sight to be SURE I wouldn't fall again. Now I am bruised and battered and have some sort of whip lash. It happened in the blink of an eye and I am still a little shocked that I fell down. Tomorrow, I may feel like I was run over by a truck. LOL It is semi-funny now, but I assure you at the time I felt like I was dying! OUCHIE! (The partial blue/partial black type is supposed to be funny. It is a representation of what I look like right now. Go ahead and try to laugh now). :)

In other news: I placed a glitter order today for a few straggling shares. :)

I also received LOTS of ribbon today. I have it all sorted and lined up ready to be cut and bundled. In light of my recent "crash and burn" I may need to take tomorrow to limp around and whine, but I assure you as soon as I can bend without yelping in pain, I will get busy cutting. :) Thank you for your patience. :) I do have shares available in all types, but you'll need to sign up soon because spots are limited). For details, click here: http://confessionsofaribbonaddict.blogspot.com/2007/10/october-may-arts-ribbon.html

Have a great day and take time to stamp a pretty card today. :) HUGS!

A New Color Challenge

It's Tuesday! That means it is time for the new color challenge on SCS. YAY!

Here is the card I came up with. To play along, go check out the details here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7523290&posted=1#post7523290

The colors are:

  • Soft Sky

  • Purely Pomegranate

  • Basic Grey (the SU color, not the patterned paper company) :)

I was a little iffy on using these together, but I like the finished product! Also, please note I refrained from using my cute little Janome sewing machine. The urge was great, but I wanted to try to make it through a card without stitching on it. LOL It was hard... :)

Stamps: word on word, petal prints, well worn words, CHF canvas

Paper: pomegranate, white, basic grey, grey shimmer paper, soft sky

Ink: white craft, basic grey, pomegranate, soft sky

Accessories: brads, ribbon, horizontal slot punch, dimensionals

Have a great day!

Inks: pumpkin pie, black Stazon

Accessories: Tonic paper distresser, Janome sewing machine, silver brads, sponge, ribbon (don't remember the brand), scalloped circle, dimensionals
Watch soon for a fun Halloween goodie project!

Still Trying to Fit in the Pink

Well, I couldn't decide if I wanted to make more Halloween cards, or more pink cards so I combined the two and made some pink Halloween cards. :) After all, *some* monsters are girly right? LOL I mean, who doesn't like pink? :)

These 2 cards use adorable Doodle Factory images that were purchased from:

Stamps: Doodle Factory Halloween set, Mosaic (Starving Artist)

Inks: SU pretty in pink, regal rose, blush blossom, choc chip, Stazon brown

Papers: All SU card stock, Basic Grey Lily Kate patterned papers

Accessories: Heidi Swapp clear flowers, Swarovski crystals, ribbon, Prima Sprites, brads, Tonic paper distresser, watercolor crayons, aquapainter, air art tool, Janome sewing machine

EEK! Halloween!

Recently I was sent a sample of some cards made at one of Janet Wakeland's stamp events. I had never seen anything like this layout and went right to work creating one of my own.

Here are the steps to this card:

  • cut a piece of CS to 8 1/2 X 5 1/2

  • score at 2 1/8 and 6 3/8

  • cut each flap into a triangle. (lining up a center mark and the score line where the card folds works best for me) It doesn't have to be *perfect*. The seam will be covered by a focal image.

  • use your SU slit punch to make a slit on the back panel of the card base.

  • work on a front panel for your card. (mine is 4 X 2 3/4)

  • Use sticky strip (red tape) to tape your main panel over the 2 triangular flaps on your card base. Make sure to mark how far up your focal panel will go and place adhesive on the flaps, not your focal image.

  • Now make an insert for your card. This piece will slide into your card base, under your focal point and will rest in the slit punch you made on your card base. (I used a black piece and added a tab for help with pulling it out)

Stamps: Booglie Eyes spider, Party Punch

Inks: Stazon black

Papers: SU Creepy Crawly designer paper, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Whisper White

Accessories: SU mini library clips, heat and stick powder, versamarker, black twine, black brads, Janome sewing machine, slit punch, Rounded tab punch, Basic Grey button (mellow collection), red tape, black Fun Flock, white gel pen

Note: The "sentiments" on this card are part of the SU Creepy Crawly designer paper pack.

Glittered Spider

I am continuing the Halloween series today. :) No more pink right now, although I think I'll revisit pink later on when I stamp. *snicker*

I started with a pumpkin panel and distressed it with my Tonic paper distresser. Then I distressed a piece of designer paper and adhered it to the pumpkin panel only in the center. After sewing around the perimeter of the piece, I pulled up the edges a little on the designer paper and further distressed it. There is NO ribbon on this card... EEEEK! LOL The black "ric rac" is actually a piece of red tape this cut into the ric rac shape. I laid it down on the patterned paper and heated it a little bit. Then, I poured black glitter (from the recent glitter share) over it and heated again to make sure it was nice and stuck. :) I stamped the spider on a piece of whisper white CS and then punched it out. The sentiment is from AMuse. After distressing the edges of that piece I adhered it to a black punched circle that I was miraculously able to stitch around with a fair amount of accuracy. LOL I finished it off with a couple stacked Prima Sprites and tied a clear button in the center of them that was tucked between the white and black piece of card stock.

Just a reminder I am still taking sign ups for the ribbon share. :)

Have a great day! Go stamp something. :)

Pink Frosted Cherry Blossoms

Have you had enough pink yet? I thought I had, but then the sketch challenge was posted on SCS and I decided I wasn't done with pink yet. LOL

If you'd like to play along with the sketch challenge, click here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=293909&page=4

Each of the cherry blossoms has a pink Swarovski crystal adhered to it. Of course I had to stitch on the card. It's become a ritual. LOL I have to try to squeeze it in somewhere. :)

Swarovski flat back crystals can be found in the jewelry aisle. I get mine at Michaels, Hobby Lobby and even Walmart. :) Any crystal by another name is not the same. These things sparkle like diamonds. :)

Figgy Pudding?

I have NO clue what figgy pudding is or how it tastes, but I DO know that the new Figgy Pudding by Basic Grey is cuuuuuuuuuute! It's a new release and I have been waiting for it to hit the shelves.

I was browsing eclectic Paperie a minute ago and guess what? THEY HAVE IT IN! Oh my goodness it is so pretty! I made sure to put it in my cart and check out before I shared the info though. LOL

SO, if you want some Figgy Pudding, check it out at eclectic Paperie. They have the 6 X 6 pads, loose sheets of 12 X 12 and paper packs. I bought 6 X 6 pads and loose sheets personally. OH and don't forget the new colors of stickles while you are there. Cinnamon, Burgundy... Mmmmmm all this product talk is making me hungry. LOL

Visions of Pink Dance Around in my Head

I gave the color challenge another go this afternoon. This time I ditched the grunge of chocolate chip and went ALL PINK. Have I mentioned I like pink? LOL

I grabbed the same stamp set, because really... why not make a few cards while you have everything out KWIM? LOL

I *may* go make another pink card. :) I need lots of cards to mail out right now and my stash is EMPTY! Imagine that? I actually mail out every card I make. *shocker*

While I have your attention, I will let you know that the ribbon has been shipped out to me. :) I should have it next week sometime and will get busy cutting!

All glitter has been shipped out. :) Sparkly! :)

Have a great day! :) HUGS!

Color Challenge Day!

It's color challenge day on SCS. Every Tuesday, Emily posts a color combo that you are to make a card/project with. It is not a contest or anything, just stamping fun. :) I love it because it gives me a starting point and a task and I just start stamping. :)

Today's challenge is in honor of breast cancer awareness and is to use PINK. I loooooove pink, so I got stamping right away! :)

The card is made with emboss resist on glossy white paper. Here are the steps:

  • stamp script BG stamp with Stazon timber brown on glossy white

  • let dry completely (or set with heat gun)

  • stamp flower in versamark and then emboss with clear embossing powder

  • using dye ink (I used a cotton candy Kaleidacolor pad) sponge ink all over glossy paper around image. I always start with the lightest color and then blend darker colors over it.

I sewed around the embossed piece (SORRY, I love my Janome... do you have one yet?) LOL I added a panel of pretty in pink CS that was stamped in whisper white craft and zig zag stitched. I finished it off with some copper brads (Making Memories-my FAVORITE type/color of brad). I also added a super cool ribbon brad that I got at Hobby Lobby. It is Paper Studio brand. Unfortunately it is a package with mixed metals and aged copper is my favorite. I ended up buying 5 packages of them and so far have only been using the copper ones. LOL

I think I need to get back to my stamp room. I hear my pink inks calling my name still. I think I am going to go for round 2. :)

BOO!

I have been feeling SPOOKY this weekend and made several Halloween cards.
This is one of my favorites. :)
I started with the black panel and layered a piece of patterned paper layered on it. I only put a dab of adhesive in the center when mounting it. I sewed around the edge of the patterned paper, leaving enough so I could roll it up and distress it a little.
The bat is stamped on SU watercolor paper and colored in with watercolor crayons and my aquapainter. I splatter pumpkin ink on it with my air art tool. Then I roughed up the edges with my Tonic paper distresser. The frightful and delightful stamps are one stamp from AMuse. I used my word window punch to punch the two words in small little windows and layered them over the stamped image slightly.
I used my horizontal slot punch and wrapped lots of fun ribbon around the card base. I don't remember the company that the ribbon is from. It was on a ribbon card and came with 5 different types of ribbon. I got it in a birthday package from my pal, Tracy Paulk. :)

Happy Friday!

I just wanted to post a quick update for you all. :)

I got the glitter shipment last night. There was even glitter on the OUTSIDE of the box. LOL I was sparkling last night. :) I will be shipping out the remaining glitter on Monday. There are a few participants that have not yet sent payment. If/when you do send payment I will place another order. If anyone missed out, feel free to contact me and sign up.

I have now returned all ribbon share e-mails. If you would like to sign up still, I will be leaving sign ups open for a couple weeks.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Who me? Embarrassed? NEVER!

L to R: Cyndi (cpw3431), Me (texasjodylynn), Kristin (Wasatch Wizard), Karen (gamblemom)

While I am on the subject of SLC, I thought I would share a little story with you. When I got to SLC, I called Cyndi and Kristin to let them know we (Karen and I) were at baggage claim and asked where they were. Apparently they were running a little late and were on their way to find us. I kept looking around for them. Imagine my surprise when I saw my friend Cyndi standing there holding a LARGE sign with MY picture on it!?!?! What a welcome! LOL People all around us were chuckling and staring. :)

I am sure you are looking at the picture and wondering what in the world I am doing! Right? Let me introduce you to my toothless blue tooth (named by my husband). Yes, that IS a telephone strapped to my head. :) I am a major multitasker and love chatting on the phone to friends. The problem is that my neck was in pain after trying to hold the phone with my shoulder while my hands were busy. SO... I grabbed one of my daughter's headbands, clipped it under the clip on my phone and my headset was born. This contraption has saved my neck AND I get to chat with my friends while cleaning, stamping, browsing SCS and just about anything else I do around the house. LOL You should try it, it works. LOL Now you are wondering why there is a picture of said contraption maybe? Well... I was trying to explain it to a friend so she could make her own, but she didn't get it. So.... I took a self-portrait of my head with blue toothless device attached. See what happens when you try to help a pal? She sends on picture to be used by fellow friends to embarrass me at the airport. :) It WAS funny though. :) Talk about starting off the gathering with hysterical laughter. :)

Beaded and Glitterfied

I wanted to share my 2nd shoebox swap project for the Salt Lake City gathering I went to at the end of September. This is a book I made with my Bind It All.

I used a 1/2 inch brown coil. The front and back covers are 4 X 4 HEAVYWEIGHT coasters. I covered them with Cosmo Cricket Gretel patterned paper on both sides, then sanded the edges with my Basic Grey Precision File Set. I inked the chipboard flower with a Colorbox chalk ink pad. Then, I covered it with versamark and coated with heat n' stick powder. Then, I heated the powder (when doing this make sure not to overheat). Then I smooshed the flower into microbeads. After brushing off any loose beads, I coated the beaded flower with Art Institute glitter from my share and removed any excess by tapping the flower. Then I adhered the flower to the cover and bound it all together.

I will be working on a Bind It All tutorial and tip sheet as soon as time permits.

Stay tuned for the newest RIBBON SHARE! This will be one of the best yet! It will be posted sometime in the next 24 hours!

Ribbons and Trims review

I recently got the book Ribbons and Trims. It is a book that includes 100 ideas for personalizing your home. The author of the book is Annabel Lewis.

Can you believe there is a book about using ribbon in your home? And here I thought ribbon was only for hoarding and occasionally slapping on cards and scrapbook pages. LOL

I can definitely say that I gained inspiration for some card ideas through reading this book. After all, trends normally start in the clothing industry. Why can't I draw inspiration for cards from a home decorating book? :) I can use the techniques in this book on a smaller scale on cards as well as color combos etc.

There are ideas on techniques, furniture, pillows, bed linen, curtains, shades, blinds, lighting and MORE! I think I am going to try some ribbon weaving I saw in this book.

If you love ribbon as much as I do, check it out if you'd like. :)

Rubber Romance Chocolate Girl

For the Salt Lake City gathering, each person needed to come up with 1 or 2 shoebox swaps. Here is one of mine. :)
I had gotten this Rubber Romance stamp recently and decided that girlfriends and chocolate went hand in hand. :)
I used a combination of ink refills and watercolor crayons to color this card. I chose the patterned paper first and then the ink colors that coordinated with the paper. The pillow she is laying on was done using the paper piecing technique.
Since I couldn't really take my Janome sewing machine with me to SLC I paper pierced on the outer pattern paper layer. :)
The tea tin was an accessory to set out with shoebox swap. I decorated it to match my shoebox swap card and even SEWED on it. LOL Then, I filled it with Hershey sticks. Each person was supposed to eat some chocolate while they were making the card. LOL It was all about the mood. When you stamp a chocolate girl card, I think you should eat chocolate. It helps with the inspiration. LOL Now I DON'T think you should eat flowers when you stamp with flowers. Just FYI! LOL
You can find rubber romance stamps here: http://www.eclecticpaperie.com/rurounru.html
I buy the unmounted rubber and mount them on cling cushion. :)
I have been asked this question, so here goes:
WHAT IS A SHOEBOX SWAP:
Each participant designs a card/project. They then cut the materials for as many people to make the project as there are people participating. All materials including stamps, inks, embellishments etc are provided by the card designer. Then, everyone sets us their swaps around the room and participants move around the room and make each project. I find it difficult to "creatively" stamp in a group of people. With a shoebox swap, you are just CASEing the cards, so there is not a whole lot of creativity needed, yet you get to leave with lots of fun projects. :)

2nd Glitter Order

The 2nd glitter order for the share went in this morning. :) I was told this is their busy season, so it may be slow shipping. I'll let you know as soon as I get it and will ship it out immediately. :)

Thanks to all who ordered. I *may* put in one more order based on demand, so if you missed out the first 2 times, send me an e-mail. :)

Have a GREAT day!

Salt Lake City Door Prize

Hi all!
I am back from visiting with SCS friends in SLC. It was a BLAST!
I told you all before I left that I would share my door prize with you and here it is.
First, my concept: I was going to alter a frame and small container to fill with stamping goodies. When I was searching my drawers for pretty floral stamps to use, I saw my stamp set that has the 4 seasons in it: Spring, Summer Autumn and Winter. I had a light bulb moment and decided to make a 4 seasons door prize. I chose stamp sets that enveloped each season and set out to make 4 different panels that can be changed throughout the season. My frame has a 4 X 4 opening with frosted glass beyond the 4 inch opening. Each panel's full size is 7 1/2 X 7 1/2. I stamped a decorative 4 X 4 square center for each panel. I decided to sew on each panel as well (big surprise huh) LOL. I then embellished each panel as well as adding a tag with the season.
The tag was made again with my sewing machine, chipboard and patterned paper. I made 4 pockets out of patterned paper and stamped each season on a piece of paper and stuck one season in each of the pockets. This was my hint at what was inside. :)
I needed a box to place the extra panels in, so I used some Cosmo Cricket Gretel patterned paper to alter a box and stuck the extra panels in that. Then, I stamped each season on a piece of patterned paper (4 1/4 X 5 1/2) and placed it in a clear envelope. Behind that panel, I placed embellishments that fit that season. I added pastel colored velvet brads and buttons in the spring envelope. I placed bright colored velvet brads and buttons in the summer envelope. For the winter envelope I added Heidi Swapp snowflake ghost shapes. In the autumn envelope, I added leaf brads, and a mix of other mixed metallic embellishments.
I placed the panels and embellishment envelopes in the box. I placed the frame on top of the box and then but a piece of patterned paper 8 X 8 to lay on top of the frame to hide what was underneath. Then I used a piece of 5/8 inch chocolate grosgrain to wrap it all up in.
The hostess of the gathering, Kristin, won my door prize. I hope she enjoys it. :)
