Catch Some Rays!

Welcome to the MFT Blog Hop! Just happening along the blog hop? Then, you'll want to start over at Kim's blog HERE. Of course there is ALWAYS blog candy at the end, so you'll want to hop along the Sweet Sixteen trail all the way to the end.

These days I find it VERY hard to NOT make a 5 1/2" square card! LOL It is just THAT much more space to play with. It opens up new possibilities and I love having the space to make everything work and not look at squished.
I am also becoming an "inside of the card decorator". I just love how it looks with the inside finished and it only takes a couple extra minutes to finish it off! Check out the fun sentiment that comes in the set! I love the bold VACATION word. If you stamp it in a light(ish) color, you can then overstamp with a dark ink and a smaller, thinner sentiment for a fun look!
The stamp set I used for this card, Catch Some Rays, as well as THREE other stamp sets are being released on Wednesday night at 10:00 PM EST.
The stamps sets being released are:

  • Catch Some Rays

  • Puttin on the Glitz

  • Purrfect Treats

  • Puppy Chow
There will be a special ONE CLICK bundle priced at $46 which includes all 4 stamp sets!
Special of the week:

If you place an order each Wednesday and are in the first 50 orders, you will earn the complete collection for FREE over the next 24 weeks. Tomorrow (Wednesday), the first 50 orders (after the 10:00 PM release) will receive a FREE Memento Dew Drop in Angel Pink with their order! Awesome!
You should have hopped over from my MADLY talented friend, Michele. She is as sweet as she is talented!

Java Jar

My non-coffee-drinking self just HAD to use I Need Coffee Flopsey again. :) I went to the store and purchased some coffee to fill one of my Perfect Packaging jars in. :) The jars are super easy to alter. Just make a paper band around the jar and alter it with a label. The lids are a nice flat, smooth finish, so you can easily decorate the top as well. :) I'll need to find a coffee-loving friend to gift this to. :)

I used a pretty stitched flower that I got from my friend Michele. :)
I made a matching card to go with my jar.
I even decorated the inside. :)
Ink: Memento Black
Paper: Perfect Paper Panels, navy, Scenic Route patterned paper
Accessories: felt flower, stitched flower, Janome sew mini, brads, Prismacolor pencils and gamsol, SU ribbon
Have a Hoppy Day! :)

Howdy & Happy Trails

Sometimes, when I stamp, I start with something OTHER than the stamps. For the project, it all started with the paper. I found this Cosmo Cricket paper in my stash UNTOUCHED and decided I wanted to go western! I have a “western” drawer, so I started searching through all my stamps and embellishments and was drawn to this cute stamp set by MFT: Ride’em Cowgirl, which was ALSO unused to date! Geez! I need to stop doing that! SO many stamps, so little time. LOL

I actually started with the box, which is opposite of what I normally do. I would typically make a card and then maybe something to go with it. This time, though, it was all about the box. I started with a chocolate panel big enough for the top of the box and worked on that piece. It’s SUPER easy to alter things like this, because it’s just like making a card. Add everything you want to the card stock and then, when you are done, you just adhere the entire panel to the top of the box. I did lots of stitching with my Janome sew mini using some premium, thick thread in a brown color. I added lots of copper brads, a covered chipboard star and a piece of the super cool, RIC RAC GROSGRAIN which I am in love with. Then, I decided to make some hand stitched using my linen thread from SU on each of the peaks of the ric rac. The wood button came from Kim. I just LOVE wood buttons and they are hard for me to find in stores!
After I was done with the top panel, I added a strip of patterned paper to the bottom portion of the box. I then used my centering ruler (a MUST HAVE-buy it at Michaels) to make holes for my copper brads. I stuck them through the entire box and then lined the inside of the box so it would be pretty inside and none of the brad prongs would show. I also stamped sentiments on all sides of the lid.
When I was done with the box (which I worked on over the course of a couple days), I decided a matching card was in order! I can’t give away this box without a matching card, right? :)
For the card, I used MFT Sketch Challenge 86. Want to see the sketch? HERE it is.

Each week, there is a new MFT Sketch Challenge posted. Everyone who has participated (and has followed the rules for uploading etc) is entered into a random drawing for a $5 MFT voucher! Want to start participating? HERE is this week’s challenge and all the details of how to play! :) While you’re there, you’ll also want to check out the My Favorite Challenge which is also posted in the same thread as the sketch challenge. This week the challenge is PAPER PIECING which is SO fun and works so well with MFT stamps! Everything for the week is kept in one place for your convenience. :) Go check it out and have the chance to win!

Do you want the chance to win the entire July 1st release? Click on over to the ONE CLICK CHALLENGE for details!

Have you checked out the BUBBLE BIN this week? There are 10 sets in there that are being offered at GREAT prices! Don’t miss out! The bin is changed up every Monday, so you only have a couple days left to grab the sets in the bin for this week!

Stamps: Ride’em Cowgirl

Hoppin' with Flopsey...

Welcome to the mid-month MFT Blog Hop! Just happening along the blog hop? Then, you'll want to start over at Kim's blog HERE and then hop to end. Of course there is ALWAYS blog candy at the end, but this week... there is an "intermission", and you'll have a SECOND chance to win the brand spankin' new I Need Coffee Flopsey that will be released TONIGHT in 2 short hours! :) At midnight EST, you'll be able to view the TWO new sets right HERE.

Confession: I do not drink coffee, java or lattes, but this new Flopsey stamp set is so cute, that it doesn't matter! LOL In fact, I had to ask a friend what java and latte were so that I would use it in the right context... LMBO! I am a sweet tea drinker and just never went down Coffee Road. :)

Here is the coffee mug I made:

The mug came with an insert in it, and I removed the insert and used it as a guide to make my own insert. It was rectangular(ish) will curved top and bottom, so that when inserted, it fits perfectly in the mug. I cut strips of patterned paper and adhered them to black card stock and then trimmed it in the proper shape. I used my Janome sew mini to stitch all the panels together and then added a simple sentiment to the liner before slipping it in the mug.
I covered some chipboard with patterned paper and then die cut it with a new tag die from Sizzix. Then, I colored a Flopsey and cut it out with my circle cutter (skipping the ears, feet and mug so that I could trim those with scissors and they would be "out of the circle"). I tied the tag to the handle of the mug with some black, ruffled ribbon.
Here is the matching card I made:
Flopsey was colored with Copic markers and then I used Prismacolor pencils/gamsol to make the wispy, blue outline.
Noteworthy news: Did you know the MFT is now composed of a Sweet Sixteen? Want to check out the entire design team? Click HERE to be directed to the team page! You'll notice we have TWO brand new designers: Kathy Daume' and Barbara Anders! I hope you'll give them some lovin' as you hop past their blogs. They are a wonderful addition to the team and are SO excited to be here! :)
MFT New Releases will be available at MIDNIGHT EST on June 17th! The two new sets being released are:
Special for the week:

Mad's World: BLOG CANDY

My daughter Madeline watches American Idol with me and she became an Adam Lambert fan this year! She loves his over the top style! She LOVED his Mad World performance... coincidentally one of her nicknames is Mad. :) So... I decided to merge her favorite (for now) song, her nickname and the ADORABLE Poppies set from MFT to create this Princess-Punk wall hanging for her.

If love was measured in Swarovski crystals... you could say I REALLY love my daughter! LOL I hand glued 88 4mm Swarovskis to this wall hanging! OUCH! LOL I gladly gave them up though. Her super-sweet SQUEAL made it SO worth it! :) I used my Bling Bet Alphabet from MFT to stamp the letters. They have 4mm holes in them for perfect placement of crystals or whatever you want to fill them with.

I knew I wanted to make the focal point look like a record and I came up with something that I think is a cool little trick. I used my circle cutter (I use the curvy cutter with the glass mat and hard plastic templates) and LIGHTLY dragged my blade around at varying sizes to create the rings on the black card stock. None of the rings are "cut" they are just "scratched" if that makes sense. I like that it looks like the little rings on records.
I had pulled out a bunch of silver hardware to work with and found some belt findings in the mix. My hubby had a cinch type belt on, so I asked him to take it off (hubba hubba LOL) and I used it as a guide to make my own cinched belt to use as an embellishment.
I ran red line adhesive under the belt to keep it in place and also a red line dot under the "hanging" part of the belt to keep it snug and tight.
The card stock portion of the wall hanging is heavily red-line taped to a piece of heavy weight 12 X 12 black chipboard for durability. I used a picture hanger at the top and secured it with the brad that is in the center of the top row. :)
She has been SO ready to hang this up since I finished it up a couple days ago... Madeline... come and get it. :)
Ink: Going Gray, Memento Black, Riding Hood Red
Paper: SU Rockabilly, black, white
Accessories: Janome Sew Mini, Swarovski Crystals, SU brads, silver brads, Heidi Swapp ghost shapes stars (mini and large), Curvy Cutter, Spica glitter pen, Copic markers, silver belt hardware, SU ribbon, red line dimensionals, 12 X 12 Black Chipboard
OH, I almost forgot... I DID mention the BLOG CANDY, right? :) No? Well... I have been posting lots of Poppies projects and with my most recent order from MFT, I added a set for YOU! Yep, YOU! :) I appreciate all of you so much for stopping by and I thought it was time for a little treat. ONE lucky blog reader will win the stamp set, The Poppies, by MFT. It is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES and I just had to share the love.
Want to see it?
Want to win it?
All you need to do is leave a comment on this post. Say whatever you'd like. With your comment, please leave your name and e-mail address so I can contact you if you win. I will choose ONE winner randomly (using random.org) on June 19th. One comment per person, please. :)

These Boots Were Made for Splashing!

Today I have an MFTeaser for you using one of the sets being released at midnight EST on Wednesday, June 17th!

This set is called Rainy Day Friends and is by My Favorite Things!

Isn't the little frog a cutie?  If you look at her raincoat, you'll see that it has frog eyes on the hood. :)  I colored the frog with BG72 Copic and then used a colorless blender to create some subtles spots all over.  Then, I finished it off with some white gel pen spots on her head.  The girl image was colored with Copic markers and paper pieced.  She is cut out and pieced over the cloud paper.  The frog is also cut out and is perched on the sidewalk which was drawn by hand using a black marker and ruler.  May we have a moment of silence for my W1 Copic marker?  It dried out right as I was finishing this card.  I am sad and need a refill STAT!  I use W1 a LOT!
For her raincoat, I used some 3mm hot fix crystals available at MFT HERE.  The pack I used is great because it has 3 different sizes of CLEAR crystals, which is what I use the very most!  :)  Her jacket was paper pieced using patterned paper from SU.  The sentiment was stamped on red card stock and then cut out with my Nestabilities.  I added some crazy stitching with my Janome sew mini and covered up a wonky corner with the largish brads from SU.  :)  I didn't HAVE to tell you that ya' know?  LOL
There is a BIG sale going on at MFT and it is TODAY ONLY.  The sale is over at 11:59 PM EST TODAY so hop on over there and fill your carts before it's too late.

The Poppies Board Book

Here is a "rockin'" board book I made with my new Poppies stamp set from MFT. These little girls are SO SO cute! OMG I cannot get enough of them. :)

To create this board book, I used a new Sizzix bracket Bigz XL die and a new die for the cover that I am carrying on the DIE CUTS FOR SALE page here on my blog. :) I cut the pieces of out the heavy weight, black chipboard available here. I started with the Circle Cut-Out Mat in black chipboard and stamped and colored the 3 Poppies and framed them in 3 of the holes. In the 4th hole, I added the sentiment a mini Heidi Swapp ghost shape crown. I covered the chipboard with designer paper and added some SU brads to the corners to give it more of a "rocked out" feel. :)

Want some Circle Cut-Out chipboard pieces like the one I used above? They are available in black chipboard, kraft chipboard, white chipboard, heavy plastic or even card stock. You can find the complete list of die cuts for sale HERE. You can also add sticky stuff to the same cart and check out only once to save on shipping. You can find the sticky stuff for sale HERE. Many of you have e-mailed recently asking when I will having another sticky sale... the answer is ALWAYS. :) If you follow the link above, you will be directed to the permanent sticky sale page. You can order any time and most orders will ship within 1-3 business days. :)

Here is a photo of the die cut along with an "add to cart" option if you want some without having to see the rest of them. :) The dimensions of the die cut: 4 1/8" X 4 1/8" and each circle is 1 1/2"

Choices:
color choice (card stock only)

There are a total of 4 pages to the board book. One is the cover, and then there is one page featuring each of The Poppies band members. :)

Father's Day Gift Set

This MIGHT be a new record for me! LOL It is 2 weeks from Father's Day and I have a gift ready... EARLY! My typically self would be scrambling the night before Father's Day to get something ready, but NOT this year! *whew*

I created this set using the new set Who's That Grillin' Guy?

The card was made using a sketch challenge by Cindy and Frances, a "use 3 patterned papers" challenge from Joanne and Christina and a charcoal tutorial by Amy! WHEW! That is a lot of multitasking, huh? :)

The can was altered and is meant to house little grillin' goodies and maybe even a gift card to a steak house (or BBQ joint). Inside the tin, I added a box of matches that had been altered. I added a sentiment flag: "C'mon baby light my fire". *giggle* I had originally intended for the BBQ sauce to go INSIDE the can, but the BBQ sauce was too chunky (more on being too chunky later), so I decided to dress it up in western wear and add a simple tag with the sentiment: "Got Meat". :)

OK, now for more info on being too chunky... let's shift our attention from the chunky BBQ sauce bottle to my chunky self. LOL When I was searching for fun embellishments for my paint can, I thought jean stars would be PERFECT! The problem of course, was that I didn't have anything like that. I remembered going through my closet a couple months ago and pulling out my "skinny jeans" (from a prior life) and sticking them in the garage for the next garage sale. I went and retrieved them from my garage and starting cutting them up (take THAT skinny jeans). I ran a piece of denim through my Big Shot with a Sizzix star die and IT WORKED! YAY! Now, I can make denim embellishments with my Sizzix dies. :) Every now and then, I had to snip one piece of fabric, but for the most part, it gave a really clean cut and didn't fray easily! :) So.... go raid your closet for your skinny jeans (or for the lucky ones, your chunky jeans) and start butchering! :)

Ink: Memento black, white craft
