i love you, friend

Hi everyone!  Thanks for stopping by and happy Thursday.

The other day I had the chance to just stamp.  I wanted to use some of the new goodies I have received over the past few weeks months.  (just keepin' it real... I am slacker... it is what it is LOL)

I decided to whip out  my Prismacolor pencils.  Shocker!

I love these little teacup girls from Stampin' Bella.  They are just so darn cute!

The sentiment is one I found in one of my many sentiment stamp drawers.  I forget to look and see who makes it.  Stampin' Up maybe?  I was feeling particularly grateful for my friends that day.  I don't know what I'd do without them.  They celebrate the good things in my life with me, and listen to me rant about the bad things.  They accept me for who I am (and THAT is a feat in itself LOL).  They make me feel special... and for that, thank you friends.  I love you. :)  (I can say that, right?  It's not weird... LOL)

I'll see you again tomorrow.  I have lots of goodies whipped up and ready to post!  (Shocker X 2)  Have a WONDERFUL day!  HUGS!

Digital Designs Day at MFT

Hi everyone!  Today is a SURPRISE release from MFT and it's all about Digital Designs!  There are 4 new templates that have been released and a digital paper pack.

If you'd like to see a list of participating designers for today's Digital Designs Day event, please head over to Kim's blog at 11 AM EST.

For my project, I used the new Pumpkin Box Template.  It is super cute AND easy to put together.  I am looking forward to making many of these for gifts for Halloween and Thanksgiving.  :)  I used the SVG format of the template and cut out all the pieces on my Cricut Expression.  (looooove it)

I had so much fun with the first one, I decided to make another... exactly the same.  LOL  I just changed up the sentiment.  Aren't these little things sweet?  They are about 3 inches tall and hold a little bit of paper shred and about 25 Werthers candies.  (yes, I counted LMBO)

I did something I NEVER do... NAKED BUTTONS.  Just to prove to Susan that even *I* break the rules sometimes.  What good is a rule if you don't break it every now and then?  LOL  I did it, it was fun, and I liked it so much I did it again (for the 2nd box), so take THAT!  ;)

By the time I was done with my 2nd box, my 12 year old, Bailey, decided she was ready to tackle it.  With a bit of hands-off instruction, she made one herself.  And it was perfect!  That's my girl!

I took a couple pictures along the way to show you:

Here is the lid piece.  All you have to do is use the included PDF as a guide for where to score.  Easy peasy.  :)

This is the base.  It's identical in "form", just a bit longer.

Here is a shot of the lid construction.  That is the stem being taped down in the center of the lid of the box prior to adding the liner in it.

The 4 new templates and digital paper pack are available NOW in the MFT store.  You MUST head over and check them out.  There are SO many cute ones to choose from!

I Think YOU Can

Hi!  Today I have another boy card.  I have to tell you I was laughing when I was making this card.  It took me back to the time when my now 16 year old son was about 3-6.  I dressed him in THE most adorable outfits (so *I* thought).  You know... sweater vests, khaki shorts, cute little clip on ties... all finished off by his adorable bowl haircut.  When he looks at pictures now, I get "the eye".  heehee  So, this cute little plaid overall outfit, complete with white long-sleeved shirt, and white bandanna?  TOTALLY something I would have dressed him in!  :)

For this card I used Wyatt the Conductor from the MFT Pure Innocence Collection.

Is this not the cutest little boy outfit EVER???  LOL

Super Kid

Hi all and thanks for stopping by.  I have had this card made for over a week and didn't have time to blog it.  I have been short on time lately.  It's one part bad time management and one part exceedingly long to-do list.  Either way, I need to get it together... so I carved out some time to post this card tonight.  :)

This is a SUPER simple card using Pure Innocence Super Boy.  I saw a card on SCS that just had the image stamped, without being colored, and a sentiment stamped over it.  I was inspired by it and created this:

The star element was created using black felt and the star border from MFT.  Some simple stitching and brads made this about a 20 minute card.

See you soon!

A Calendar for Charley's Fund - A Muse Calendar Project

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by.

I am proud and honored to have been asked by A Muse to help promote their charity calendar for the third year in a row.  This year, the proceeds of the calendar will be donated to Charley's fund.  I urge you to read the story of Charley's Fund HERE.  Have some tissues available, then be sure to make yourself a note to stop by A Muse on the 15th to donate.

This year, A Muse is offering five versions of the calendar and thanks to my whining persistence request, each format will come with a FREE black and white version to make your stamping easier.  Use whatever color combo you would like to and don't worry about whether it matches or not.

Here is some info about the calendars, straight from the A Muse blog:

A2 - This Calendar includes 16 calendar months (Sept '10 through Dec '11) and a perpetual calendar to keep track of birthdays and other special events. 4 months/8.5" x 11" page.

4" square - This calendar includes 16 calendar months (Sept '10 through Dec '11) and a perpetual calendar. This calendar has a grey frame around the months. This is the original calendar format I created for my girls and the lines were to help with cutting. 4 months/8.5' x 11" page.

NEW! 4" x 6" - This calendar includes 16 calendar months (Sept '10 through Dec '11). There is no perpetual calendar with this version. This calendar includes crop lines for easy trimming. 2 months/8.5" x 11" page.

Full Page - This Calendar includes 16 calendar months (Sept '10 through Dec '11). There is no perpetual calendar with this version. This calendar prints one month/8.5" x 11" page.

Mini - This Calendar includes 12 months (Jan '11 through Dec '11). There is no perpetual calendar with this version. This calendar prints on one 8.5" x 11" page.

With the purchase of each calendar format, you will receive both a color and a B&W version. Thank you to all of our calendar customers that suggested this!

Please note: The A Muse Calendars are a download product only (nothing will be shipped to you.) There are five different versions available this year. For a small donation, you are able to download the calendar file and print as many copies are you like for personal use or to create handcrafted items for resale. Calendars make a wonderful gift for family, friends and co-workers.

The calendars will be available on September 15th and I hope you ALL buy one (or more) of the calendar formats.  The thing I LOVE about this project is that ANYONE can afford to help this cause.  It's a small amount of money, and you can feel good about doing it.  That is the BEST kind of charity for a stay-at-home like me.  Even if you don't WANT to make a calendar... I hope you'll still donate by purchasing one.  :)

OK, on to my project details...

I had a LOT of fun coming up with this calendar.  I decided to use the mini version of the calendar and to jazz it up with one of my favorite Basic Grey lines: Origins.  I had quite a bit of it left and believe it or not I get EXCITED when I use up patterned paper.  It's almost a personal mission to use as much as humanly possible, so that I can toss the random pieces in my scrap box (which I donate) and move on to the next pack.

I started by printing out the mini calendar and taking a look at it.  I decided that it was going to be a challenge for me to trim them precisely, so it was Make The Cut to the rescue!  :)  I was able to make a cut file that perfectly cut out all 15 squares at once.  Impressed?  LOL  I was SO excited that I was able to do it!  I am more than happy to share my cut file with anyone who purchases the mini version of the calendar, AND I will even share the file that cuts the black mats for each calendar.  Simply forward me your order confirmation showing you purchased the mini version, and I will e-mail it to you. :) (To use it, you will need a Cricut Expression and Make The Cut software.)

Here is a picture of the box that holds all the individual calendar pages and the March finished calendar page.  This is a gift box that will look cute sitting on a table somewhere, and includes the plate stand to hold each month's calendar.

Here is a closer shot of the lid.  I used the included 2011 printed square, and stamped some tress from a SU set I have (Trendy Trees I think).  I stitched around the large panel and added some copper brads, ruffled ribbon, and some twine.

Here is a shot of the inside of the lid.  Linda from A Muse even thought to include a special "gift tag" square, which I dressed up and then attached to the inside of the lid.  I adhered it to a decorative panel.

Another cute feature is the inclusion of this cute component; the year of the rabbit tag.  I added it to the bottom of the box, like a price tag.  LOL  I had to include all the parts and pieces.

Here is the finished March page.  You can see I kept it fairly simple, just adding brads, stitching, ribbon, twine and the tiny calendar to each page.

Here is the finished October page.  I tried to incorporate a feel for each month by trying to dress the tree accordingly.  On this one, the tree leaves are starting to turn.  :)

Finally, here is a group shot of all 12 months pages completed.  You can see I also used up all my Origins stitched flowers.  :)  I think something like this makes a great gift and doesn't cost a ton of money.  The best part?  This calendar prints on ONE sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 paper!  With one purchase, you can print as many as you want to!  *word*  LOL

Again, the calendar downloads go on sale on September 15th.  I hope A Muse (and Charley's Fund) can count on you to support the cause this year.  :)

Have a great day and I'll see you soon.  My desk is covered in blog-able projects!  *yay*

Make The Cut Tutorial: Creating a castle wall and window

Hi everyone!  Ready to use Make The Cut to cut all the pieces you'll need to create your own princess castle/tower?  You can see the finished project and tutorial on how to finish your project HERE.

Here is a quick peek at the project, before we get started, so you'll understand what we are making. :)

First, we need to create the bricks that will line the castle walls.  We are creating this from scratch, using only the tools provided in Make The Cut.  There is a huge satisfaction in creating something for FREE that you are imagining in your head.  It unleashes MUCH creativity. :)

Creating the Castle Wall Bricks

In Make The Cut, click the little gear at the top left of the screen, and then on that drop down menu, click on basic shapes

A box will pop up on your screen that includes various shapes available in Make The Cut to use in creating your own creations.  Choose rounded rectangle (double click on it) and it will pop up on your screen.  X out of the small box.

Now we have the rounded rectangle on our screen.  I want it to be sitting horizontally, but right now, it is vertical.  See the arrows on the sides and corners?  They are straight and all pointing outward.

Click on the shape again until the arrows change.  They should now be curved around the corners.  These are the arrows you need to have when you are rotating an image.

To rotate your shape, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, right-click on your mouse (and hold) while grabbing one of the corner arrows and rotate the shape.  By holding down the Ctrl key, your shape will rotate the shape in 15 degree increments, to ensure accuracy.  You can also rotate "freely" without holding down the Ctrl key.  Now, the shape is horizontal.

I sized it to 1.5" X 1".  To do this, in the upper bar of your screen, there is a lock icon.  Click on it to unlock.  Type in the measurements you want in the boxes to the left (width and height) and press enter.  The shape will pop to the size you typed in.  You can also manually drag the shape to the size you want by dragging out on the STRAIGHT arrows on the shape.

I needed a ton of these for my project.  Let's DUPLICATE!  :)  No need to recreate the wheel each time.  Once you get the shape and size you want, all you need to do is duplicate.  Right click on the shape, choose duplicate. (If you do not have duplicate as an option, you don't have the shape "selected".  Just click on the shape to select it - which means there is a "box" around it, and arrows around it).

You can adjust the number of times to duplicate a shape and the spacing between each one.  For this one, I wanted to fill an entire 12 X 12 sheet, so I played around with it until I found the magic numbers: 54 duplicates and .2 inches spacing.  You can space them as far apart as you want to.  Type in the numbers, and when you are happy, press OK.

Now that the bricks are done, we need to CUT.  Be sure your Cricut is connected to your computer, is on, and has the paper loaded.  Now, on the computer screen, click on the scissor-in-a-circle icon at the top of the screen.  This is the box that will pop up.  You can adjust the speed of your cut.  Medium worked well for me.  Now CUT.

Creating the Castle Window

Now, lets create the castle window.  I had googled castles and knew I wanted a rectangle window with a rounded top.  If you have an idea in your head of what it will look like, you should be easily able to break it down into "shapes" to create it in Make The Cut.

Click on the gear at the top left of the screen, and click on basic shapes. This is the window that will pop up.  We need a square and a circle.  Double click on the shapes you want to put on your mat (circle and square), and then X out of the basic shapes window.

Click anywhere on the mat, and then click on the square, holding it down and move it away from the circle.

I want my window 2.5" inches wide, so I typed in 2.5 in the width box and pressed enter.  If you are making a square and the lock is LOCKED, you can type in just one measurement and it will pop to that size.  If you were creating a rectangle, you would UNLOCK it and type in both measurements before pressing enter.  Remember, if you make a mistake, just press UNDO (arrow to the left icon) and do it again.

Grab your circle and place it over the square as shown.  Make the circle 2.5" by typing in 2.5 and pressing enter.  It will pop to 2.5".  (shown in picture below this one).

Now, we need to place the circle on top of the square.  There is a little + in the middle of each shape.  I lined up the horizontal part of + with the top of the square.

Now we need to WELD the shapes together, so that the circle line isn't cutting into the square.  To do this, draw a "crop box" around both shapes.  Just place your cursor in the upper left corner OUTSIDE of the shape and drag until it surrounds both shapes.  (kind of like cropping a picture)

I circled an icon on the lower, left-hand side.  This is the WELD function.  Welding removes all "cut lines" from the center of shapes and makes them all one piece.  Click WELD.  Another "path" to do this with is: select your shapes, right click on them, shape magic, weld.

Here is our basic shape of the castle window.

We need to create the "frame" of the window, so we'll need to duplicate the shape we created.  Select the shape (click on it), right click, duplicate.

I duplicated it 3 times just to be sure I had enough shapes to work with.

Be sure your LOCK is locked.  LOL  Now, select one of the shapes (click on it) and type in 3.5" for the width and press enter.  We need a bigger shape so we can create the window.  Keeping the lock locked, ensures your shape will stay in proportion.

Using the + marks, line up a small and big castle window together.  Just line up the + marks and it will be a perfect match.

Select both shapes by drawing a "crop box" around them.

Click on the JOIN icon in the lower tool bar.  (or select the shapes, right click, shape magic, join)  This "cuts out" the middle, creating our castle window.

Now, CUT.

You now have the bricks and castle window you'll need to create THIS project.

Isn't Make The Cut fun?  I feel so... professional!  And coming from someone who can barely edit photos, that is saying something.  LOL

Remember, Make The Cut is on sale right now for $58.36 (save $21.59).  I can definitely say the program is the ONLY reason I wanted a Cricut.  I have not bought a single cartridge, and I have had so much with it. :)

Here is one last peek at the project I created using the pieces I created for this tutorial:
