Inspired by Butterflies

Hi and welcome to day 4 (of 5) of MFT Teaser Time.  Today I have a "change of pace" product to share with you.  :)  I gained inspiration for this project from one posted on Lauren Meader's blog a long time ago.   I was inspired by the Inspired by Butterflies stamp set.  The set is so beautiful!

It's a fold-out box made with card stock and held together with a lid that slides on the top.  The sides are held together with ribbon strung through jumbo brads, and within the ribbon you can hold things like cards, envelopes, notepads, pens, etc.  Then, you'll still have room for a light-weight gift in the center of the box if you chose to do that.

I created 2 simple cards and stamped envelopes to place in the box, using the same papers (Basic Grey Stella Ruby) and colors.

On the lid, I created a 1/4" Rosette flower and then added a double-layer butterfly as an embellishment.  To create the butterfly, I stamped it twice with Versamark on white paper and clear embossed.  Then I used some pink Glimmer Mist to spritz it lightly.  Then, wipe it down and place to the side to dry.  Attach the 2 butterflies together in the center using red line tape, mold the wings as desired, and embellish with Swarovski crystals.  I added one of the sentiment included in the set.  The white thing peeking out behind the rosette is a Sizzix flourish die-cut.

Here are the details about the upcoming release on February 1st at 10 PM EST:

Sending Butterfly Kisses

Hi all and welcome to day 3 of MFT Teaser Time.  It's Pure Innocence day!  Get ready to coo!

I used the new set, Butterfly Kisses for my card today.  Her little leotard and butterfly wings are SO sweet!  *coo*

She is colored with Copic markers.  I added sparkly glitter to her wings, and a 2mm Swarovski crystal to the center of the flower in her hair and as buckles on her shoes.

I just love stacking the Jumbo Scallop and Scalloped Scallop Die-namics dies together.

Keep the Wind in Your Sails

Hi everyone!  It's day 2 (of 5) of MFT Teaser Time!

I used the new Flopsey stamp set - Smooth Sailing.  I love the smaller-than-usual scale with the cool sailboat.  The sail just BEGS to be paper-pieced, so who am I to deny that?

I found some crazy-patterned Basic Grey patterned paper with "travel" types things on the patterns, so I went literal and used it for my little Flopsey Sailor.  Paper-piecing that striped paper was NOT EASY.  LOL  I could barely tell where the line was.  I used the soon-to-be-released Flat-Bottom Clouds and Catch a Wave Die-namics dies.  LOVE them.  The clouds are so cute and trendy.  And of course anytime felt is involved it's doubly cute, I think.  The Catch a Wave die is the PERFECT size.  You can create plenty of overlapping waves.

Here is a peek inside.  I used a sentiment found in the set (and another wild print from the patterned paper pack).  :)

Super cute new dies: (you can buy these on February 1st)

The time is always right... to Go Fly a Kite

Hi and welcome to day 1 of MFT Teaser Time!  That means in 5 short days, MFT's newest stamps and dies will release.  This month, there is plenty to be excited about.  5 new dies (which are as fabulous as ever), and a TON of new stamp sets are coming your way!

My first card today uses the Brand Spankin' New stamp set, The Great Outdoors, which was designed specifically to work with many of MFT's outdoor elements Die-namics dies (grass, sun, clouds, kite, etc).  It's awesome and a must have if you are a fan of Die-namics dies.  You can make fun, quick, and scrappy cards using it and it just makes sense.  Add it to your wish list.  ;)

Check out the new clouds.  They are SO cute.  They are flat-bottomed and come in 2 sizes.  I cut them using a very light blue felt.

The new Fly a Kite die is AMAZING.  It is so much fun to create paper-pieced kites.  Here, I created one with the My Mind's Eye True Blue patterned paper pack.

The bow tie tail piece is also included in the die.  I used a 4 mm Swarovski crystal in the center of each one.

Want to see how I created my stitched kite tail?

Figure out where you want your kite tail and draw a little swirl lightly with a pencil.  Trust me.  If *I* can do this, YOU can do this.  LOL   Put your paper in your machine and put the presser foot down so that the needle will go in your paper at the start of your hand-drawn swirl.

Turn the knob on the right-hand side and go one stitch at a time, CAREFULLY following your pencil line.

When you reach the end of the swirly kite tail, remove the piece from your machine.  Please note there is one stitch on here that is driving me crazy.  If you look at the finished card, you'll see how I fixed that.  ;)

Now please PLEASE do not back stitch on your machine, trim the ends off on the front of your paper, or do anything else that shows the ends of your threads.  There is an easy way to pull your thread to the back for a seamless finish.  ;)

Tug on the loose thread on the back of your panel.  A loop will appear as shown.  Either stick a paper piercer through the hop and pull it out the back, or grab it with your fingers and pull it back.

Then, adhere the ends to the back of your panel. I prefer my sticky dots because they are easy to grab one-handed, and the liner can be removed when I am adhering my labels together, so it is sticky. When I used to use scotch tape it repelled the other adhesives I used and made the bond looser, so this is my new, improved method. You could also use red line tape, but that is not one-handed.  Repeat for all ends of your thread.

Here is my kite tail, waiting for the kite.  You could make it long, short, super loopy, a little loopy, and anything in between.

My second card today uses Clearly Sentimental about Time.  This set can actually be earned free NOW by qualifying for the Triple Scoop set.  Check out the details HERE.  It will also be released for sale on February 1st.

The sentiment was stamped, then die-cut using Nestabilities.  I added three Swarovski crystals to the sentiment panel to jazz it up a bit.  The sentiment panel was laid over a rosette, that was created with the 3/8" Rosette Die-namics die.  I also added a simple flourish cut from white chipboard with my Sizzix die and added a crystal to the ends of the flourish swirls.  For this card, less is more.  :)

Happy Birthday Bond!

Hi everyone!  Thanks for stopping by today.  Today, I am celebrating the wonderful Wendy Bond's birthday, along with a bunch of her other friends with a surprise blog hop!

Surprise Wendy, happy birthday!

I took this opportunity to whip out one of my Penny Black brushstroke flowers.  It's been quite a while since I have used any of them.  I also used my Stampin' Up markers.  That is such a rare occurrence that my 13 year old daughter saw me using them and asked why I was using them.  LOL  The third thing I used that has been collecting dust for a couple years is my air art tool that sprays ink.  I wanted to dirty up my pristine pink flowers and that was just the ticket.  I was feeling quite accomplished using so many things that have been ignored for so long.  LOL

The "new" aspect to my card is the crystal swirly thingy.  For the LONGEST time I didn't like them.  They have been growing on me for the past couple months and then the other day it was an all-out obsession to get some.  Hubby took me shopping and I got a nice supply of them.  Since they are on my desk (in mass quantity) I decided to slap one on here.  It added a little pizazz... so much so that I didn't even use any brads. (check out my corners, Michele)  I also used some pretty new tiny rose ribbon I bought at Pizazz in El Paso.  Love it.  It's so cute!

I stamped the sentiment in Brilliance black and embossed in clear to emphasize the sentiment.

It's time for me to send you along to the next birthday hopper.  Up next is Regan D'Agostino.  Hop along and I"ll see you soon with day of MFT Teaser Time.  :)

Thank You - MFT Sketch #4

Hi everyone!  Today I have a card using this week's MFT Wednesday Stamp Club Sketch #4.

I used this as an opportunity to put the focus on some of the newer MFT dies.  Making a scrappy card sans coloring is a nice change of pace every now and then.  The MFT Dainty Doily die is the perfect choice because of it's large size.  The new 1/4" Rosette die worked perfectly in the center.  I only stamped one thing for this card - a super simple sentiment from the new(ish) Inspired by  Music stamp set.  I laid it over the rosette and added a big bow using May Arts striped twill ribbon (using my Bow Easy tool).

Here is this week's sketch:
And here is some info about playing along:

My card uses the Pure Innocence World's Best Doctor stamp set.

Pure Innocence Doctor is colored with Copic markers.  I drew in some grass with Prismacolor pencils.  He is strolling the grounds of the hospital.  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.  ;)

On the sketch, I used a star in place of the snowflakes shown.  The Die-namics Stacking Stars die was perfect for this card.  I tucked one behind the image panel, and one in front, to add a little somethin' somethin'.

Here is a peek inside.  I used one of the sentiments included in the stamp set.

Here is the sketch.  Be sure to print it out and plan to play along.  :)
