Thinking of Hoo?

Hi all and welcome to the start of MFTeasers for the January release.  Today, we are featuring a stamp set that was part of the MFT Kit several months back, Thinking of Hoo?.  It's finally available on it's own and I LOVE this set!  It is SO cute and SO easy to stamp with.  It doesn't require an insane amount of coloring and is PERFECT for paper piecing.  My sample below is completely paper pieced!  The only thing I colored in was a bit of shadowing using my Copic markers.  The rest is all paper pieced right down to the owl's tiny nose.

Want in on a little secret?  See that pretty teal burlap flower?  That wasn't initially going to be placed there, but my sewing machine went WONKY and ripped up my paper as it made a ball-o-thread on the back-side of my paper.  After I ranted for a bit collected myself, I decided to make lemonade out of lemons and was determined to make the card work, so I found  the flower and all was well in the world.  Remember, mistakes will happen, but try to cover them up before you toss your creation in the round file. :)

Paper piecing this owl required me to cut and glue some pretty tiny pieces.  In the process of doing it, I figured out a TRICK!
  • When paper piecing tiny pieces of paper that you have a hard time picking up, rub a little bit of glue from the Quickie Glue pen onto your fingertip, pick up the piece and place it where it goes (you'll put Quickie Glue down in the area you are adhering the piece to first).  You can then use the tip of your scissors or a paper piercer to help position it perfectly over your previously stamped image.  This made is much easier to place the owl's talons, nose, and eyes.
This card is all about texture.  I used textured patterned paper, a burlap Prima flower, ribbon and I added 2 flocked brads to the upper portion of the card to bring it all in balance and add a little more "oomph".

I was having so much fun, I decided to finish the inside of the card, too.  I pulled the same color scheme and patterned papers inside to make it a cohesive feel.  I used a Sizzix die I had to create a branch to perch my paper-pieced owl on.  The die-cut extended past the edges of the paper so I just trimmed them off prior to stitching around the edges (look Michele... no brads).
